I Love You in French

In French, the word that means  “love” is "l’amour", which is used for everything from true romantic love, to strictly familial love, or sometimes even meaning love of an idea, an activity, or simply a thing or object. The Académie Française is well-known as a French grammar institution that’s actually quite prestigious. That organization considers "amour" to be a masculine noun, whether it’s used in singular or plural form. Saying  “I love you” in French is  "Je t’aime" if you’re using it in an informal way or "Je Vous Aime" for the plural or formal use.  In any case, "Je t’aime" is the one that's most often used to say “I love you”.

Another beautiful declaration of love (déclaration d’amour) is "Je suis amoureux/amoureuse de toi", which means  "I’m in love with you" in English. It’s also a common phrase that's often heard in French movies and TV shows. It's one saying that can't ever be mistaken for anything but true love. In English-speaking movies,  you'll often hear the phrase "I love you but I'm just not in love with you". That's unmistakably putting you smack dab in the middle of the dreaded "friend zone".
